Tigers and Threats

Tigers are the largest of the cat family, they are part of the genus panthera tigris from the order carnivora.

Tigers lives in a variety of places from dense green forest to snowy ice forest and are carnivorous animals, mammals and as carnivorous animals they eat other animals for food or you (if you go wondering off). Tigers can weigh up to 90kg - 310kg for male and 65kg - 170kg for woman and can live for as long as 8-10 years in the wild.

Tigers like other animals have a variety of species amongst them and these species are:

  • Bengal tigers
  • Siberian tigers
  • Sumatran tigers
  • Caspian tigers
  • Javon tigers
  • South china tigers
  • Indochinese tigers
  • Malayan tigers
  • Bali tigers

Each species of tigers are separated or can be differentiated by their color density, well...( colour if you are British ) and size. Due to geography each specie can vary in color considerable like white, yellow, brown etc.

                    Tigers can be found generally in the continent Asia, and despite the fact that most of the big pray feline may trace their origins to Africa (like some other high level animals, lets say hmm.....Humans.. yes humans) the African continent have no tiger but the countries listed below does ;

  • Bhutan
  • Malaysia
  • China
  • Indonesia
  • Laos
  • India
  • Vietnam
  • Bangladesh
  • Cambodia
  • Nepal
  • Russia
  • Myanmar
  • Thailand

Threats:

Tigers are currently classified as endangered species due to decrease in population, these decline of the global population of tigers are caused by some factors such as Pouching, climate change, etc.

    Climate change:

Climate change is a global threat to humanity and is a major contributor to the decline of tigers due to habitat loss. As the global climate continues to change, its catastrophic effects leads to drought, longer monsoons, wild fire, excessive heat and more. Climate change results to the change in natural process of the habitat that tigers calls home as it affects seasons and times.

    Pouching:

Humans are also a major cause the global tiger decline, tigers are been hunted for many things such as skin, bones and other body part believed to be medicinal or have medicinal values. Pouching of tigers ( or many animals as is always the case) is illegal and highly disastrous as it is unregulated. Despite many efforts to stop illegal pouching around the world, more than 100 tigers are killed every year despite the significant drop in population.

The decline of tigers today can still be solved by increasing global awareness and fighting for the implementation of laws that will strengthen the protection of tigers and wildlife in general around the world. Tigers are also an important part of nature and their decline will have an impact on us all.
