Polar bear and Threats

Polar bear (ursus maritimus) is a carnivorous bear whose native range lies within the arctic circle, occupying the Arctic ocean and land masses. Polar bears are approximately the size of the omnivorous Kodiak bear (ursus arctos middenorffi).

Adult males weighs about 400-450kg while adult female (sow) weighs about 150-350 kg.  Most polar bears are born on land , it then spends most of its time in waters across ice and snow, Male polar bears are aggressive and known to eat young curbs. Although polar bears are known to live about 30 years in the wild, climate crisis and other man-made or natural incidents may significantly lower their life span.

Fact

Seals makes up it's diet due to the arctic nature and food chain, it can eat any other animal it finds available (bon apatite..). As historically this bears are also known as white bears, Polar bears stores most of its foods as fats so as to sustain itself during hibernation (which is incredible cause we humans only wish to have such ability...),  and can eat up double it's weight. Female polar bears or bears in general have very rich milk, nearly 8x that of human milk and can feed their curbs for more than two years.

 Population :

Polar bears are estimated to have a population of around 36,000 left in the wild but according to the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), they are listed as vulnerable and may go extinct possibly by the end of the century most likely due to climate change.

Threats:

             Climate change:

Climate crisis is the most significant contributor to the decline of polar bears, changes in climate (higher heat level) is increasing the earths temperature and melting the ice on which polar bears uses to hunt seals. Climate crisis also causes habitat loss due to melting ice and increase in sea levels.

            Humans:

Humans (always humans!) are also a contributing factor to the decline of polar bears, human oil exploration and pollution  are contributing factors and humans are at the center of climate changes, other human factors such as hunting and trafficking also contributes.

 Solution

Solving the climate crisis will undoubtedly contribute immensely to the rescue or preservation efforts of polar bears and other animals (including us humans on earth) on earth and reducing the level of fossil fuel burnt annually will save us all.
